World News Brief- India: New TV Program Aims to Highlight Those With Hearing Impairment

A weekly television show is set to capture the lives of those with hearing impairment. The Hindu, India’s national newspaper reports that K. Murali, the Director of Deaf Leaders has met with government officials to obtain a 28-minute slot once each week on the national channel. The organization Mr. Murali heads is working toward empowerment of the hearing impaired in India. The aim of the programming is "not to portray the hearing impaired as seeking public sympathy, but empowered citizens contributing to society”.
